Speak.

Nothing bonds people more than a common struggle. Females, can we admit we’re pretty good at tearing one another down and judging each other? We all have nightmares of how calculating and viscous the femme fatale can be. Have you ever witnessed or experienced two females – whether co-workers, PTA members, team mates, or rivals come together over a common cause or bond over a commonality? It’s beautiful. It’s powerful. Being female is a unique struggle that you can only truly understand if you are female. There is so much that unites us. Nobody likes period cramps or PMS. Nobody. Most of us have been overlooked or underestimated in the work place because we’re female. We’ve all been talked down to by a man. All mothers want their children to be safe. We’ve all had a broken heart at some point. Many of us have suffered a miscarriage. Many of us have been raped or sexually assaulted in some way. Most of us will have the worst haircut of our lives at some point. Bras – they suck, okay? We’ve all been called crazy for caring “too” much or not enough about something.

When I started this blog, I just wanted a place to write – and to keep my writing skills fresh. I didn’t think anybody would read it, but that was okay because getting readers wasn’t the goal. I wanted to put my experiences out into a void so that they no longer coagulated within me, taking up space. The out pour of support I’ve received is overwhelming. I am touched. Thank you! If I can encourage even one person to stand up for herself and stop accepting bullshit – this was more than worth it.

Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater pain then carrying the weight of an untold story within you.”

I can attest to that. So, speak up. Let it out. People will listen. People care. You are not crazy. When someone cuts you, you bleed. When someone hurts you, you feel it. These are reasonable and healthy reactions. You are alive, in tune and empathetic to the world and to the people around you. Your story is unique, and you never know who might need to hear it. Alone – we are beautiful and strong. Together we are unstoppable.
